How to style: the checked coat

Behind the scenes of The Bicester Village Shopping Collection’s autumn shoot, Sandro Rasa has his eye on a coat. “This winter, I'm definitely updating my wardrobe with a checked coat. This has been on my list for a while, and it's about time I bought one.”

We agree: after summer’s endless sunshine we’re finally ready to curl up in a good coat, and this season’s go-to style is checked. Silhouettes are easy and cocooning, with relaxed shoulders and a mid-calf length, while patterns take centre stage. Look for plaid and checked coats – bonus points for one with subtle vintage styling.

“I would pair it with really classic pieces to keep it simple,” adds Sandro. “My typical outfit includes boots, jeans, a white T-shirt – or perhaps a turtleneck during winter – so this checked coat would go perfectly.

“For me, the most important element in men’s styling is accessories. There aren’t too many categories for men, but I definitely can't live without my sunglasses or my watch – they add a little something to any outfit.”
