A New Year’s Eve escape? Go on then, twist our arm.

La Roca Village

New Year’s Eve. It’s the one night of the year that sends us into an inevitable panic. Where to go, what to wear, who to see… So this time around, we’ve done the hard work for you and found the best places in the world to begin 2018. Whether it’s a city celebration, a night of dancing barefoot on the beach or a romantic escape, we’ve found where you need to be.

Thanks to the time difference, be one of the first to ring in the new year. Sydney’s world-famous Harbour Bridge plays host to the largest fireworks display in the world, with a dazzling display that glistens off the water, while illuminated boats bob along the surface. Idyllic! And, as if that wasn’t enough, you can pitch up to the party on Cockatoo Island or join revellers on the beach in Bondi. Did we mention it’s summer over there that time of year? We can’t think of any reason not to book a flight right now!

Rio de Janeiro

Do sun, sea, cold caiprinhas and live music sound like your thing? Then take it long haul and head to the home of the carnival, Rio de Janeiro. The hottest clubs (quite literally) may be in the city, but the beach is where the biggest party’s happening. Join more than two million visitors and dance New Year’s Eve away barefoot on one of the world’s most famous beaches. With fireworks above the waves, white sand between your toes and, of course, beautiful people, what’s not to like? Top tip: don’t forget to pack your white outfit – the custom is to dress in ‘branco’ for New Year’s Eve.

With hot springs, stunning scenery and, of course, the Northern Lights, Reykjavik is possibly the most romantic place to be when the clock strikes midnight. With no official New Year’s Eve events, the party is made by the people. Traditionally the evening starts with a bonfire (brenna) where friends and family get together, then fireworks light up the night and the real fun begins. We’re envisaging curling up in an igloo-style setting, hot toddy in hands and gazing up at a rainbow sky. Dreamy!

Las Vegas

Whether dining al fresco at a rooftop restaurant, living it up in the casinos or hitting one of the world’s hottest shows, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to making it a New Year’s Eve to remember in Las Vegas. Previous performers have included Drake, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, and, of course, the hottest DJs in the world take to the stage in the city’s infamous super-clubs. The famous Las Vegas strip is car-free for the night, transforming into a huge street party with a sensational firework show to boot. And the party doesn’t stop there… Vegas’s New Year’s Day bottomless brunches are not to be missed.
